Why fall is for falling in love

Why fall is for falling in love

You can feel autumn in the air - a charged electricity.  With each leaf crunching underfoot and the deliberate warmth of a sunray cutting through cooler air, the energy is swirling.  We are heading into fall, the season for falling in love.

Why is it that we tend to fall in love in the fall?

To me, the changing season still evokes the anticipation I experienced as a child going back to school.  The new mix of classmates begged questions like, who would I be sitting near, and what crushes (new or past) would I encounter?  Even though I didn't have a ton of boyfriends in school, reading through my old diaries confirms I was indeed boy-crazy!

Introspection to Connection

There may be more to it than school-aged experiences.  When the seasons change it can evoke feelings of nostalgia and introspection.  As we are doing a little soul searching and getting to know ourselves, we can also become more receptive to emotional connections.

Mix and Mingle

At this time when we are primed for seeking social interactions, the weather is simultaneously cooling down.  We tend to spend more time indoors at parties, gatherings, and other social events, increasing the chances of meeting new people, and perhaps a new love.

Warmth and Companionship

Shorter days and colder temperatures are the main ingredients that make us desire to be physically near a partner (let's hear it for cuddle season).  This desire for warmth and companionship (and cozy blankets) leads us to seek out romantic relationships.

While the forces of fall make it a prime time for love, we can fall in love at any time of year.  Love is a personal experience that can happen unexpectedly and at any moment.
