Tell Us About Your Business

I run a multidisciplinary design studio in New York City. I've made greeting cards for MoMA Design Stores, crafted intricate paper sculptures for restaurants and private clients, designed sand-cast kitchen items manufactured in Japan, and recently designed a two-acre horse maze for Martha Stewart! So a little bit of everything that requires anything design-related, and I always look forward to expecting the unexpected from my clients.

What Inspired You To Create It?

Recently a good friend’s father turned 80 and I wanted to make a custom card to celebrate his milestone birthday. I'd been making cards for over two decades and had always wanted to find a new way to play with positive and negative space utilizing cutouts. The idea came to me to use a bold font, slice it vertically, and treat the counterforms of the letters as their own elements by using a contrasting color beneath.

How Do You Show Yourself Love?

Something I learned from my wife is not to be too hard on myself and when small successes come, to enjoy them fully for at least a day. Simple enough, but I tend to forget to do that and immediately begin thinking about my next project. Also from time to time, I force myself not to work and take a few days off to completely distance myself from projects.

What Is Your Favorite Love Song?

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane 1965

Does that count as a love song? :)

Anything Else You Would Like To Share?

Before I pursued art at Rhode Island School of Design, I lived in Washington, PA for two years studying at Washington and Jefferson College. Back then, making a living as a designer or artist was such a remote thought, but now being involved with a wonderful company like love has been a great full-circle experience. This opportunity also makes me so excited because my great friends in the Pittsburgh area can visit the store!
